Georgia Journalists Name Chrysler’s Pacifica Best Family Car 2016

ATLANTA: The Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association (GAAMA) held its fourth annual Family Car Challenge at Lake Lanier Islands and named the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica the best family car for 2016. More than 40 journalists, representing national and publications and websites as well as bloggers and broadcast automotive journalists, test drove 24 vehicles and rated the cars and trucks.

In addition to the Pacifica winning Best Family Car, the other category winners were:

Best Value: 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

Best Technology: 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300

Best Three Row: 2016 Ford Explorer

Best Family Pickup Truck: 2016 Ram 1500

Best Luxury: 2016 Lexus LX 570

Best Green: 2017 Chevrolet Volt

“It was our most competitive Family Car Challenge yet and our journalists took almost 200 rides in the cars and trucks in order to truly get a feel for the vehicle, its value, energy efficiency, its technology and comfort,” says GAAMA President Christopher Lawrence, CEO of AutoAcademics. “In the front of our minds was always the family factor and whether this would be a vehicle that would be as family-friendly doing school drop-offs as well as taking the family road trip.”

Another exciting aspect of the Challenge was that the journalists were among the first to test drive some vehicles that were just re-introduced to the market, such as the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica and the 2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E. “Because of the Family Car Challenge our members’ readers and listeners will be able to get some of the first initial impressions of these remarkable cars,” says Lawrence. “It’s another testament as to the respect GAAMA’s Family Car Challenge is receiving within the automotive industry.”

Participating manufacturers were: Chevrolet, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Ram, Subaru, Toyota and Volkswagen.

2015 New York International Auto Show

The 2016 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) kicked off in style with several unveilings and a host of new cars.  Needless to say, there was plenty of automotive hotness to go around. For over 115 years, the show has been one of the largest car shows in America and a place to see and be seen.  New this year was the International Motor Press Association (IMPA) Reception with  FCA, Mini, Mitsubishi, Scion and Subaru. Barbara Pomerance joined The Washington Auto Show delegation to attend NYIAS.

News from Geneva

Washington Auto Show leadership attended the press preview day today at the Geneva Auto Show, where they met with several automakers and got a first look at some of the debuts dazzling auto enthusiasts worldwide. Like, for example, the brand new Porsche Boxster. Check it out: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2013-porsche-boxster-geneva-2012/

In fact, for those of you who speak German, here’s a brief clip of Porsche President and CEO Matthias Müller at the press conference.

Maybe you can tell me what he’s saying.

Here’s a pic, too, to show Porsche some extra love since the automaker has its North American operations in the A-T-L.

Always a popular kid on the block, Hyundai rolled out the i30 and i40.

And VW doing its cute, fun VW thing. Disclaimer: I drive one. Not this one. I might like to.

Say hello to the Eco UP!, a three-cylinder hybrid that runs on natural gas and the first of VW’s Up! models in production.

Stay tuned. We’re supposed to be getting more pics of who’s who and what’s what from Geneva…

VW outfits the Golf in electric gear

In recent years, VW has wowed with its use of TDI — Bosch’s clean diesel technology. Now the rather cultishly beloved Golf and Jetta, both of which come in TDI versions, will boast electric editions as well.

I happen to be a TDI enthusiast, but I’m glad to see the expansion of alternative-fuel solutions.

For my part, I’m eager to try biodiesel –grease  a la french fries — to run my car before hitching my wheels to the electric grid.

Anyway, here’s the story:
