On Monday, May 2, the annual Atlanta gala of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces paid tribute to the Lone Soldiers, those individuals from other countries who volunteer to serve in the IDF. The elegant InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta Hotel hosted the event. It was an emotion-filled, uplifting evening.
“We must show our appreciation and love for Israel’s greatest young men and women,” FIDF Southeast Region Executive Director Seth Baron said.
“Supporting Israel and the IDF are the most important things Jews in the Diaspora can do,” said retired British Col. Richard Kemp, a Roman Catholic and fervent defender of the IDF, who delivered the keynote address.
Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) is dedicated to the care of each and every active IDF soldier through social, educational, cultural and recreational programs as well as non-active soldiers through scholarship programs and caring for the welfare of families of fallen soldiers. FIDF also provides assistance to Israel’s Lone Soldiers whose parents do not live in Israel.
Established in 1981 by a group of Holocaust survivors, FIDF’s wellbeing programs help strengthen the soldiers and build a better future for them and for the state of Israel. FIDF is the only organization who partners directly with the IDF and receives directly from them a list of the soldiers’ needs, which drives our activities each year. Headquartered in New York City, FIDF is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit corporation that operates 15 regional offices in the United States and Panama.
FIDF strengthens the bridge between the State of Israel and the world by making a meaningful difference in the lives of each IDF soldier as well as a strategic impact on the IDF, Israeli society, and the Jewish Nation as a whole.
The young men and women who defend the Jewish Homeland ask for no help. For them, it is their obligation. It is our obligation to keep their morale high by contributing to the soldiers’ enduring spirit.
