2015 New York International Auto Show

The 2016 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) kicked off in style with several unveilings and a host of new cars.  Needless to say, there was plenty of automotive hotness to go around. For over 115 years, the show has been one of the largest car shows in America and a place to see and be seen.  New this year was the International Motor Press Association (IMPA) Reception with  FCA, Mini, Mitsubishi, Scion and Subaru. Barbara Pomerance joined The Washington Auto Show delegation to attend NYIAS.

The 2016 Atlanta International Auto Show

The 2016 Atlanta International Auto Show features more than 400 import and domestic cars, light trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles.  Members of the Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association (GAAMA) were on hand for a sneak peek of the show floor prior to opening on March 9th.  In addition, GAAMA awarded the best of show.

“It was a very exciting, diverse and eclectic selection of vehicles,” said incoming GAAMA President Christopher Lawrence, CEO of AutoAcademics, an automotive consultancy that aims to educate and assist consumers in making intelligent, unbiased, and logical automotive choices. “Every year we are excited and impressed by the new technology, sleek designs and powertrain efficiencies. The judges had a tough job and after much discussion, we selected the best in each category.”

The 2016 Geneva Motor Show

First held in 1905 the Geneva Motor Show has hosted almost all major internal combustion engine models in the history of the automobile, along with benzene- and steam-powered cars from the beginning of the century. Exotic supercars often steal the spotlight during their debuts at the show. Prototypes, new equipment, technical breakthroughs and international partnerships have been announced at the exhibition. The show is regarded as a level playing field for the world’s automakers, aided by the fact Switzerland lacks an auto industry of its own.

See highlights from this year’s show below:

The 2016 Ferrari California T is the Art of Speed

Last week at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show, Ferrari announced a new performance handling upgrade for the California T called the Handling Speciale package. It combines several key updates that gives the California T better track handling and a throatier sound.

I had the pleasure of a joyride in the 2016 Ferrari California T on March 3. I was excited to see what lurked under this bad boy’s hood: a turbocharged 3.9-liter V-8 featuring a host of power-adding, fuel-sipping technologies like direct injection and Ferrari’s Variable Boost Management. Producing a potent 560 horsepower and 557 pound-feet of torque, the California T hits 62 mph from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds.

While all Ferrari California Ts boast the same slick seven-speed dual clutch gearbox; however, the Handling Speciale package offers quicker up- and downshifts, both in automatic and manual modes. Because the “HS” treatment also includes a new quad-exhaust system, it is tuned to produce a fuller, more pronounced note at high revs.

At a base price of $205,000, the 2016 California T is quite a deal.

The new multi-function steering wheel looks like it was ripped out of a Formula1 car. The center infotainment system is angled vertically, as are the bank of HVAC controls. Below that is a reworked center console with buttons for reverse, automatic mode, and launch control. The huge paddle shifters shine brightly behind the flat-bottomed steering wheel.
