GreenBusiness Works™ EXPO finds its Exponent

Rosalind G. Brewer, executive vice president of Walmart and president of Walmart Stores, Inc.’s South Business Unit, to keynote fall conference

The regional head of America’s largest retailer will headline Atlanta’s premiere conference on the business of going green: GreenBusiness Works EXPO 2010, slated for Oct. 26-Oct. 28 at the Cobb Galleria.

As its name suggests, this year’s expo, themed “Poised for Prosperity,” will showcase how and why green businesses work. And no one could be better suited to deliver that message than Rosalind Brewer, who supervises the 1200 Walmart stores across eight southern states and ensures rigorous sustainability goals are met.

“Ms. Brewer is where the proverbial buck stops,” said Stephanie Armistead, General Manager for GreenBusiness Works, a nonprofit that works to educate businesses about sustainable practices. “With responsibility over this region’s tens of thousands of employees and its bottom line, Ms. Brewer leads and succeeds without compromising the planet. We could not be happier to have an executive of this caliber who delivers on the business case for sustainability every day in our region of the country.”

Along with leading the Fortune 500 ranking of America’s largest corporations, Walmart is widely recognized for setting an example of social responsibility and sustainability. The company’s stated environmental goals are: to be supplied by 100 percent renewable energy; to create zero waste; and to sell products that sustain people and the environment.

Brewer and others will share tips on incorporating the practices that are good for people, profit and planet at the upcoming EXPO.  The many highlights will include talks by local green leaders including Ira Blumenthal, CEO of the Captain Planet Foundation, and Joel Babbit, CEO of the Mother Nature Network, along with representatives from major companies such as Cox Enterprises and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. An on-site exhibit, featuring a range of sustainable companies, is also available to visit for a $10 entrance fee.
