Oil, oil, everywhere, but where’s the outcry?

Guess what?

The oil spill gushed 12 times faster than BP and our government expected, resulting so far in a 4.9 billion-barrel dump into the Gulf, according to this morning’s Washington Post: http://tinyurl.com/2vrgarp

We are looking at the largest accidental oil spill in history. But are we really looking? If we did, we’d summon the nerve and force to take real steps to protect our health and security, not to mention the livelihoods of those who live by the rhythm of the seas.

We’ve got the information. We see the catastrophic images, and we will live with the consequences. So let’s use our power to do something about it! Every one of us should be contacting our Representatives, amping up the level of concern here.

Meanwhile, there is a bit of a silver lining to shared tragedy.  A delegation of Gulf victims are on a healing mission to Alaska for help with coping. I know about this because my dear friend, Jessica Ravitz, a writer for CNN.com, is on site with the group. I’m eager to read her reports, and I will direct you to them once published.

best,

Rachel
