SAE International and EDTA Meetings Co-Locate with The Washington Auto Show
Partnership Highlights Shared Focus on Advanced Technology and Public Policy

The Washington Auto Show continues to enhance its brand as the public policy show of the automotive industry by bringing together the sector’s most prominent thinkers and leaders with those who shape public policy. Toward that end, the 2010 Washington Auto Show has partnered with two of the most illustrious and forward-thinking associations in the automotive industry: SAE International and the Electric Drive Transportation Association.
Co-locating with the 2010 show will be SAE International’s Government/Industry Meeting and the EDTA Conference and Annual Meeting. Given The Washington Auto Show’s focus on advanced technology and public policy, the partnerships are a natural fit.

“The theme of this year’s show, ‘Change Happens Here’ is meant to demonstrate our commitment to working with the decision makers and innovators in the industry,” said Charles Stringfellow, CEO of Brown’s Automotive and chairman of The Washington Auto Show. “By partnering with our friends at SAE International and the EDTA, we ensure the right connections are being made with the thought leaders of the industry to capture the best thinking and values in our products.”

Comprised of more than 121,000 members, SAE International assembles engineers, business executives, educators and students from more than 97 countries to exchange ideas for advancing the engineering of mobility systems. SAE is a one-stop resource for standards development (www.sae.org/standardsdev/), events (www.sae.org/events/), and technical information (http://store.sae.org/index.htm) and expertise used in designing, building, maintaining, and operating self-propelled vehicles for use on land or sea, in air or space. The organization offers public awareness programs that promote vehicle safety and maintenance and energy resource conservation. Through the SAE Foundation, the group promotes the engineering education of children, teachers, college students and faculty.

Each year, the SAE Government/Industry Meeting brings together leading technical authorities from government, industry and academia in a neutral forum to discuss the regulation, legislation and technical issues impacting the future of transportation, energy conservation, the environment, and safety. This year’s meeting, “Celebrating Progress and Potential for Safer Sustainable Vehicles,” is being held Jan. 26 through Jan. 29.

The Electric Drive Transportation Association, whose conference will run from Jan. 26 through Jan. 28, is the preeminent U.S. industry association dedicated to the promotion of electric drive. The EDTA considers electric drive the best means to achieve the highly efficient and clean use of secure energy in the transportation sector. The association supports the sustainable commercialization of all electric drive transportation technologies by providing in-depth information, education, industry networking, public policy advocacy and international conferences and exhibitions. As a unified voice for the electric drive industry, its membership includes a diverse representation of vehicle and equipment manufacturers, energy providers, component suppliers and end users. Brian Wynne, EDTA president, will appear on a panel at the Washington Auto Show’s Green Car Summit on Capitol Hill in advance of the show to discuss the opportunities that electrification offers the industry.

Now in its 68th edition, The Washington Auto Show: “Change Happens Here” offers a showcase of more than 700 vehicles from over 42 domestic and import manufacturers and a special 65,000-square foot exhibit, “The Advanced Technology SuperHighway” of the latest technologies in safety and sustainability.
