The ‘Young and the Racy’ Take on Capitol Hill: The Washington Soap Box Derby

Every summer, a select group of Washington area children experience life in the fast lane on Capitol Hill – by participating in the Washington Soap Box Derby. Scores of racers, ages 9 to 16, take the historic run down Constitution Avenue each July, competing for the chance to advance to the Championship Soap Box Derby Race.

Sponsored annually by the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA), a Pomerance and Associates client since 1987, the Derby gives spectators the chance to experience an all-American tradition in an all-American setting. As part of a comprehensive community relations program managed by Pomerance and Associates for WANADA, the events draws thousands of spectators.

The family favorite is free to all, with a day-long slate of races and entertainment.
As a public relations tool, the Washington Soap Box Derby provides WANADA an opportunity for community involvement and outreach. The participation of additional corporate sponsors extends the reach and efficiency of the event for all involved. Pomerance and Associates manages all promotional and media relations aspects of the Derby, including a collateral campaign with in-store posters for all member dealers. Designed to please spectators, participants and the media, and set against a national backdrop, this special event delivers a story and images that capture audience attention time and time again.
