Since 1987, Pomerance and Associates has been putting the art and science of public relations to work for clients. Based in Atlanta, Pomerance and Associates has built a reputation of excellence in client service, creative programming and measurable results. The firm was founded by President Barbara Pomerance, a senior practitioner with extensive industry experience.

Now serving a client roster including state, regional and national organizations, Pomerance and Associates provides the full spectrum of public relations, marketing and promotional services. The firm offers specialized expertise in cause marketing, special events, sports marketing, promotions and corporate identity programs.

Barbara S. Pomerance, President

Founder and president of Pomerance and Associates, Barbara Pomerance provides clients with effective and imaginative ways to promote their events, products and services, designed and executed to enhance the bottom line. Managing a diverse client base including business, sports and cause marketing clients, Ms. Pomerance is a recognized lecturer, writer and consultant on public relations with a specialty in media relations and event planning and promotion.

Key special events managed by Ms. Pomerance include the Washington Auto Show, the REESE'S/Bill Elliott $1 Million Driving  Challenge; The American Cancer Society Washington Ball; The Gold Anniversary Convention of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores; Capitol Hill press conferences on aging and drug abuse; and the Peoples Drug Health and Beauty Expos in Atlanta and Washington.

Pomerance and Associates has created and managed press events for a host of state, regional and national highway safety leaders, including the U. S. Secretary of Transportation, the Administrator of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and many elected and appointed officials throughout Georgia and the Southeast.

Ms. Pomerance is a former senior vice president and director of public relations for
Ehrlich-Manes Associates, a major Washington, D.C. agency. She has worked at WTVJ-TV in Miami and founded her own marketing and advertising agency in Sarasota, Florida.

Ms. Pomerance's honors and achievements include the Phoenix Award from the Public Relations  Society of America (Georgia Chapter), the Certificate of Excellence from the Public Relations Society of America (Georgia Chapter), the Golden Flame Award from the International Association of Business Communicators; the Silver Anvil Honorable Mention from the Public Relations Society of America; and the Gold Key Award (1985) from PR News. In 1995, she was presented the Outstanding Woman-Owned Enterprise Award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. She has been featured in Glamour magazine and Entrepreneurial Woman for her achievements in business.

Ms. Pomerance is an appointee to the Leadership Advisory Commission for the Forum for Sport and Event Management at George Washington University (GW) and was honored to launch the Barbara Pomerance Special Event Collection at the University.

She is a charter member of the Atlanta Chapter of The International Special Events Society (ISES) and a member of the Public Relations Society of America.

A cum laude graduate of the University of Florida in Broadcast Journalism, Ms Pomerance was the first woman to win the Florida Association of Broadcasters’ scholarship for Outstanding Student in Broadcasting.


Dana Urrutia, Senior Account Manager

With more than two decades of public relations experience, Dana Urrutia offers an extensive background cutting across many of the traditional industry boundaries. She has been both reporter and spokesperson; client and agency counsel; and speechwriter and speaker.

 Now Senior Account Manager for Pomerance and Associates, Ms. Urrutia joined the agency in 1994. As a public relations counselor and writer, Ms. Urrutia has worked with a variety of public interest, corporate and sports marketing accounts for Pomerance and Associates, including Georgia-Pacific, Hershey U. S. A., Dunlop, Lever Brothers, the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and TEAM Georgia, among others. Her work for these clients includes public relations and marketing strategy, program development, media relations, and collateral and speech writing.

Ms. Urrutia worked on the Pomerance and Associates account teams awarded two awards from the Public Relations Society of America (Georgia). The firm earned an award of excellence for the introduction of the Teenage and Adult Driver Responsibility Act, produced for the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, and the Phoenix Award (first place) for the Washington Auto Show Hands On Contest, an event created for the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association.

Prior to joining Pomerance and Associates, Ms. Urrutia was Vice President of Corporate Communications for Florida National Bank, a $7.5 billion corporation based in Jacksonville. While at Florida National, Ms. Urrutia was responsible for all corporate communications functions including media, stockholder, employee and community relations. In the area of media relations, she managed not only pro-active editorial placement but also the media coverage of several major acquisitions by Florida National, earnings and financial releases, and new product introductions. Within the realm of stockholder communications, Ms. Urrutia managed design and production of quarterly and annual reports.  As the company’s lead speechwriter, she wrote exclusively for Florida National’s chairman and president.

 The work produced by Ms. Urrutia and her staff earned a variety of public relations awards, most notably five Golden Image Awards from the Florida Public Relations Association for annual reports, video programs, employee newsletters and other corporate publications.

 Ms. Urrutia’s editorial and production experience includes positions as Assistant Editor for an Atlanta-based trade magazine and for EnviroSouth magazine, published by the Alabama Environmental Quality Association (AEQA) in Montgomery, Alabama. While with AEQA, Ms. Urrutia was honored for writing the Communication of the Year (appearing in EnviroSouth) and received Gold and Silver Awards in the categories of Publications Writing, Magazines and Special Print Communications from the International Association of Business Communicators.

 Ms. Urrutia graduated from Auburn University with high honors and was tapped for membership in Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. She holds a double major in journalism and public relations and minor concentrations in marketing and speech communication. While at Auburn, Ms. Urrutia served as Director of the Horizons Lecture series and was responsible for staging the University appearances of speakers including Carl Bernstein, Alex Haley, Daniel Schorr and Mel Blanc. She was awarded a news reporting internship with The Tampa Tribune and also wrote for the campus newspaper, The Auburn Plainsman.

 A member of the Public Relations Society of America since 1985, Ms. Urrutia earned accreditation from the society in 1988. She served as a board member of the North Florida PRSA Chapter.

Dianne Johnson, Program / Promotions Manager

Dianne joined Pomerance and Associates in 1999 and offers more than six years of marketing and public relations experience.

Although closely involved in virtually all aspects of Pomerance and Associates client services, Ms. Johnson has particular expertise in auto show management. She has been a key member of the account team for The Washington Auto Show since joining P & A, with direct responsibilities for hiring, negotiating and scheduling celebrity guests and special event entertainment. As the lead “traffic manager” for promotions scheduling, Ms. Johnson annually creates and maintains the master promotions calendar. For the 2005 Washington Auto Show, that meant coordinating more 85 different promotions, celebrity guests, and character mascots.

 Ms. Johnson has also worked extensively on the advertising side of auto show production, managing communications between P & A and the advertising agency that provides creative services and the executes the media buy for the Washington Auto Show. She is also responsible for client services for the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA), the producers of The Washington Auto Show.

In addition to her responsibilities with the Auto Show, Ms. Johnson is also the key program manager for TEAM Georgia, a non-profit safe and sober driving coalition.  She coordinates monthly board meetings and manage TEAM Georgia’s four core programs the Designated Driver Booth Program, Safe Boating Campaign, Safe Holiday Campaign and the Safe Prom/Graduation Campaign as well as represent TEAM at other community events and fund raisers.
