Jimmy Baron of davefm interviews Ira Blumenthal on the GreenBusiness Works EXPO

Ira Blumenthal, president of the Captain Planet Foundation, spoke to Jimmy Baron of Atlanta’s dave fm Monday about the GreenBusiness Works EXPO.

Ira, a talented, profesional speaker and emcee of the EXPO, tells Jimmy that he can, in fact, teach his 3-year-old how to refrain from playing his favorite game: flush the toilet. In other words, even the littlest human beings among us can take part in the sustainability movement. And, if you recall, we’ve been at this conservation thing for a while — even if we didn’t call it “green.” Ira points out the good old parenting in asking kids to turn off the TV and lights when they’re not in use.

We’ll have to check in with Jimmy to see whether the lesson takes hold.

Head to 92.9 davefm to catch the interview — thanks Jimmy!

City of Atlanta and Southeast Environmental Leaders

To dialogue on Atlanta’s New Sustainability Plan at EXPO

The City of Atlanta’s Sustainability Plan, “Power to Change,” will be presented to environmental leaders throughout the Southeast region in an in-depth forum at the upcoming GreenBusiness Works EXPO: “Poised for Prosperity.”

Scheduled for 10:30 AM on Thursday, Oct. 28 at the Cobb Galleria, the debriefing comes on the heels of Mayor Reed’s press conference kicking off Atlanta Sustainability Week with unveiling the sustainability plan on Monday, Oct. 25 at Atlanta City Hall.

“We welcome the opportunity to host officials from the City of Atlanta for an in-depth conversation about Mayor Reed’s plan among the pioneers and visionaries of the sustainability movement across our region,” said Stephanie Armistead, general manager of GreenBusiness Works EXPO, which will take place Oct. 26 – Oct. 28 at the Cobb Galleria. “This marks a key educational opportunity for Atlantans to hear firsthand what’s in store for Atlanta and create values for their companies and communities.”

Atlanta Director of Sustainability Mandy Mahoney will discuss how Atlanta intends to become one of the top-ten sustainable cities in the nation as outlined in the city’s plan.

Mahoney’s discussion marks a key moment in a conference that hosts a major lineup of innovative speakers and events.

The EXPO’s featured speakers include: Rosalind Brewer, executive vice president of Walmart and president of Walmart Stores, Inc.’s South Business Unit; Edward Kerschner, CFA, chief investment officer for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney; Chris Deri, Global Head, CSR & Sustainability Practice of Edelman; and Auden Schendler, executive director of sustainability at Aspen Skiing Company and author of “Getting Green Done: Hard Truths from the Front Lines of the Sustainability Revolution.”

The EXPO also includes a special track on energy efficiency, a Clean Tech Forum and exhibits by sustainable businesses across the Southeast.

We’ll always have Paris

Things have been a lot busy around here — between gearing up for the GreenBusiness Works EXPO and establishing a Pomerance & Associates presence in D.C.

Still, Paris is Paris.  And it’s not everyday we have our picture taken with Sarkozy. And this one’s brilliant:

Barbara shaking hands with le Président de la République française. And she is the lone shining woman in a sea of men. It is the auto biz, after all.

One of these things is not like the other... 🙂

I know it’s a bit blurry, but you get the idea.

Here’s one  of Barbara at one of the show events looking Parisian.

Too bad you can’t see the French bread.

More pics from Paris to come….But here’s a teaser. The delegation from the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA), which produces The Washington Auto Show ® , met with the leaders of 15 manufacturers and suppliers.

So keep your eyes peeled — that’s for you, Dad — for Paris, Part Deux.

 À tout à l’heure.

GreenBusiness Works EXPO to Feature “GreenHall Meeting”

An Energy Efficiency and Renewables Forum sponsored by Governor’s Energy Challenge

The Governor’s Energy Challenge, an effort to help Georgians track and conserve energy, is sponsoring the GreenBusiness Works EXPO’s “Green Hall Meeting,” a town hall event on the region’s pressing energy challenges.

Scheduled for Tuesday, October 26, 2010, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Cobb Galleria Centre, the forum will provide an overview of the issues and opportunities facing the Southeast as it seeks to engage in energy efficiencies and deploy renewable energy.

“The most efficient energy is the energy we don’t use,” said Stephanie Armistead, general manager of GreenBusiness Works and the GreenBusiness Works EXPO. “Conserving energy saves money and vital resources like water. We don’t have to look too far to see the water scarcity issues we’re facing in our region.”

In the tradition of a town hall discussion, the Governor’s Energy Challenge Green Hall Meeting will feature an open exchange of ideas to jumpstart collaborative action.  Panelists will address the public-private partnerships required to reset the region’s energy operations and examine some of the following questions:

• Germany’s Transatlantic Climate Bridge fosters cooperation and collaboration. As Germany partners with North America to share best practices in renewable energy, what can we learn from its history, challenges and successes?

• According to Reuters, installed solar capacity in the United States jumped 37 percent in 2009 as state and federal incentive programs helped prop up demand. What legislation, tax credits and incentives exist to support or hinder the growth of renewable energy in this region?

• What plans are under way among utilities and major companies to create renewable energy programs in the Southeast?

The Governor’s Energy Challenge, which has committed all state agencies to reduce energy consumption in facilities 15 percent by 2020, is encouraging Georgia citizens to make the same commitment.  Through the program’s website, consumers can measure and reduce their energy costs, helping Georgia win national recognition for its commitment to energy conservation.

The Governor’s Energy Challenge is a project of the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA), a state agency dedicated to supporting Georgia’s environment and promoting economic development. GEFA’s program focus areas are water, wastewater, solid waste, land conservation, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and fuel storage tanks for local governments, state agencies, and private sector and nonprofit organizations.
